Working days
Gantt chart durations count working days, not calendar days. A task that takes five working days, started on a Monday, finishes that Friday; started on a Wednesday, it finishes the next Tuesday, because the weekend in between does not count. Getting this right is the difference between a plan that matches the calendar and one that is quietly a week short.

Create Your Gantt Chart FreeHow GanttCharts.app counts
- Durations are whole working days, Monday to Friday; a duration of 0 is a milestone. Type "2w" and it is read as two working weeks, 10 days
- A task whose start falls on a weekend starts on the next working day, and the editor says so
- Lags on a dependency are working days too: "4+2" waits two working days
- The Finish column shows a task's last working day; typing a finish date sets the duration
Converting from calendar time
When an estimate arrives in weeks or months, convert it before you type it: one week is 5 working days, two weeks is 10, and a month is roughly 20 to 22. Waiting that happens every day of the week, such as a delivery promised "in 14 days", is 10 working days.
Frequently asked questions
Does a Gantt chart count weekends?
Normally no. Durations are counted in working days, Monday to Friday, so weekends are skipped. A five-day task takes one calendar week.
How many working days are in a month?
About 20 to 22, depending on the month and how its weekends fall, before any public holidays.
